What makes Parul Sheth Run ?
Looking at Parul Sheth a frail young women one can hardly see a glimmer of the steel she’s really made of. A personal tragedy that tore her perfect life to shreds left her devastated, depressed, angry, lonely and lost. But Parul was determined to get her life back on track and immersed herself in the mundane things of life, looking for answers till one day she stumbled upon the art of running.
Running not only gave her an outlet to pour out her angst but also gave her an alternative identity – of a runner, an athlete and now an author.
In this slim book, compact and precise Parul shares her story of how running helped her cope with her personal tragedy. A highly motivational book, after briefly touching upon her personal tragedy, Parul gets on with her running journey. Like several newbies to running, it was the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon that led her to participating in her first ever run and since then, she has graduated from a “happy runner” to a serious marathoner. Running has become a way of life for her and even though she smiles happily as she whizzes past the finish line, she shares with us the pains and aches her body has to go through, the mind numbing schedule of running in the pelting rains, re-scheduling her social life around her training, the gruelling tasks she sets herself and ultimately her fierce determination to compete against herself – to better her performance each time.
This book which began as the blog of a running soul is written straight from the heart without being maudlin – in language that is simple and direct – telling it as it is. It is inspiring and enervating and actually makes you feel like going out there and taking the first step. But as I say, if everyone drives a Mercedes, who’ll watch them drive by?
So Parul, while I know your book will motivate yet a few more thousands to join the already burgeoning crowds in the SCMM, I’d rather cheer for you when you fly by Peddar Road!
p.s. This book is also available on Kindle so go for it!
