Blooms against a Mumbai sky #SkywatchFriday

Trees in bloom

In a highly urbanised setting where concrete and humans far outnumber the flora and fauna, a tree in bloom is a treat. Driving home the other day I noticed a few trees in bloom, their brilliant flowers reaching out to my Mumbai sky.

The glorious blooms of the Rusty Shield Bearer fall down like snowflakes when the wind shakes them off

Every year this Jacaranda treats Mumbai commuters stuck in traffic to a brilliant purple canopy

And isnt it a shame to see a tree like this ? Obviously , it is past its prime and waiting for the tree cutters to fell it down before a strong gust of wind does so

I may have identified the trees wrongly thanks to my rusty knowledge of botany. Will gladly welcome correct names if wrong.

There’s something uplifting about trees, their branches reaching out to the sky , a notion so beautifully expressed in this poem from my schooldays :

Trees

By Joyce Kilmer

I think that I shall never see

A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest

Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,

And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear

A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;

Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,

But only God can make a tree.

With each passing day, the temperature is rising and soon these blooms too will fall off and the trees will go back to being part of the unnoticed background.

    Right now, it is a riot of color everywhere. At our place inVasai which has lots of trees, it’s simply beautiful. gulmohars, bougainvilleas, the trees you showed are plenty here. Just waiting for the rains to start now.

  3. It is true there is so much colour around us now..but the rising temperatures are harming the trees a lot… nice captures though 🙂

  4. Beautiful. In Hyderabad most of the trees are dry with the heat.

      It is a shame that Mumbai’s greenery is slowly giving way to grey … Luckily I get a good breeze all day so can manage even without a fan ( and no AC obviously;)

    Nice snapshots. It is indeed a joy to see a tree blossom especially in this scorching heat. I’m lucky enough to stay in a green colony despite being 2 minutes away from the heart of the city.

    Nice clicks. Lovely to see blossom everywhere but the heat is doing a lot of harm to these trees. Bangalore was unbelievably hot when I visited in March this year. A (usually) lovely big tree outside our house was looking so dry.
