Vine of Desire #TeaserTuesday

Ever since I saw Lata’s first post on this meme, I’ve been intrigued . I wanted to join up two Tuesdays ago but reading has become more than a luxury for me these days . However , I still managed to read the first 100 pages of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni’s book “Vine of Desire” . I first read CBD’s writing in an American magazine ( so long ago that I can’t remember which! ) and I was captivated by her style.

Since then I’ve been her fan and though I wanted to read her latest novel, couldn’t remember the name so I picked up this one instead.

In what seems to be her favourite  formula, this book too is about two sisters . Sudha has been called to America by Anju who has recently had a miscarriage.

Sudha is a single mother who brings along her infant daughter  Dayita.

Sunil, Anju’s husband is not too thrilled with Sudha’s visit because he is actually attracted to her and would have rather married her than Anju!

” Come here kid. Let me put my arms around you and my face against your chest. Delicate bird bones, your laughter like feathers . All day  I’ve been waiting for this. ”

” I can hear your heart going like a runaway engine”

Who do you think is saying these lines? Is it Sunil? And who is being thus addressed?

Obviously, all is not going well between Sunil and Anju. Predictably Sudha’s presence doesn’t help.

How does the story unfold?

Aren’t you sufficiently intrigued?

Well I ‘m curious too!

I can’t wait to get back to the rest of the book to see what happens to Anju and Sudha and of course Sunil……..

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by  A House of Books and has pretty simple rules…If you want to know how Teaser Tuesday Works, here’s how:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two teaser sentences from somewhere on that page
• Share the title and author so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR lists if they like your teasers!
