Death of a Politician

RIP Meera Sanyal

For the past few days, I’ve been practicing writing the Morning Pages as suggested by Julia Cameron in her book ‘The Artist’s Way”. Today as I sat down to write, I thought I would exchange my paper and pen for the keyboard. Why?

It was the death of a politician.

Meera Sanyal was a politician with a difference and her passing away came as a shock.

One of my schoolmates informed our class on the group chat of this sad news.

I didn’t really know Meera Sanyal. I met her just briefly but she impressed me deeply.  I met her twice during a “Get To Know Your Candidate” campaign organised by the neighborhood building committees during the  2014 Lok Sabha Elections.

By far, the most deserving of the candidates representing my constituency, I didn’t vote for her simply because I didn’t agree with her party’s ideology.

She was the single voice of reason in the mad and filthy game of politics, I felt that she was climbing an uphill road, filled with insurmountable hurdles. She was simply too decent to be in this fight.

In my brief interactions with her, all that I remember about her was her gentle demeanor. She was soft spoken and elegant, articulate and brave.

Many people want to do good. But how many people actually do it?

And Meera Sanyal was one person who wanted to make a difference. And she did something about it.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

  1. There are so many who meet Meera Sanyal and she left such an impact on them. I interacted with on the personal blog where shared ideas about a better India and improved Mumbai. She was such a kind soul, respecting your ideas and discussing on how we can make things better! Sad that she left us so early and could have done so much with her impressive academic and professional track record.

  2. First of all, I am so glad that you are reading and following Artist’s Way. Believe me, it is definitely going to help you, Sunita!

I did read about Meera Sanyal’s death, but haven’t known her or the work she did. But, from what you shared about her, I think we need many more Meera Sanyals to lead our country!
