With everyone housebound, eating has assumed prime importance in my home .
After all there is only so much tv you can watch and only so many books you can read . Talking to friends is another option but with everyone having only ONE thing on their minds, there is nothing much to talk about .
So I assume those who aren’t working from home but are home all the same have lots to cook for all those who are home too .
I for one am the sole cook at home and since I get bored cooking the same food have now resorted to the Internet to look for interesting recipes
So far I’ve made some pearl barley mushroom risotto, fada nu khichada and a sorghum broccoli risotto .
Unlike regular risottos and khichadi , these one dish meals aren’t made of rice .
Pearl barley is obviously NOT rice nor is Sorghum. But khichada is made from cracked wheat or daliya.
The great benefit of these meals is that you just need one pot to cook them in . Besides with vegetables , proteins and carbohydrates on plenty , you can do away with the tedium of making fresh Chapati.
Wasting food at any time is a crime . More so In these times. So what I do is surf the net and then adapt the recipes according to the contents of my pantry .
Since Hubby dear is vegetarian I make do without chicken broth and chicken. I chuck in whichever vegetable is in my fridge.
I must say the results are exotic, unexpected and non-replicable because my pantry will never have such ingredients will it ?
Are you a cook who innovates and improvises ? Or do you go exactly by the book ? Teaspoon by teaspoon? Ingredient by ingredient?
What will you be cooking this weekend . Especially on the Sunday Janata Curfew ? I’m planning a pasta fiesta so that I can clang my pot at 5 pm on Sunday
Ciao and stay safe
